A lot of app for a tiny team
The brief included maps, events, social features, payments and ratings. Each had a purpose, but it was too much for our small team to build in the first release.
For the first release, we kept the full flow: creating a plan, finding it, checking the details, joining and coordinating with the group.

Lmente launched on iOS and Android in 2023. We used familiar Material patterns as a practical starting point, with orange running through the navigation, controls and actions.

We followed activity in the app and watched plans fill up. Some reached around 14 participants; others had four or five. From what I remember, most activity gathered around plans that had been added or moderated. Getting people to start their own was harder.

An app like Lmente needs something on the map. If nobody nearby has made a plan, there's nothing to join, however much you might feel like going out. Most locations hadn't built up enough activity to keep growing without further investment, and support ended around May 2024.

I didn’t want Lmente to look like another SaaS dashboard. I gave the map most of the visual character and kept the rest of the UI simple.

I didn’t want dragging the map to replace the plans someone was still comparing. They could look outside the search area, then choose when to update the list.

Move the map while keeping the two plans from your original five-kilometre search in the list. Choose “Search this area” when you want new results
Preview a cycling plan eight kilometres away, including its route and an outside-search-area label, without replacing your current list
“Search this area” updates the list. Until then, you can open plans outside your search while keeping the original results. Updating takes an extra click; I wanted people to choose when to replace the plans they were comparing.

For the 2026 revisit, I explored building routes inside Lmente, where organisers could draw the route and add stops as they planned. The itinerary would update along with the total time and estimated finish. The original app already supported GPX imports for organisers who had a route file.
